Shifting the Conversation with AI: From Hype to Impact

About This Session

This opening keynote cuts through the noise to explore where artificial intelligence actually stands today: the global and Canadian policy landscape, including the AI for All Strategy and landmark legislation like Bill C-36 and C-34, and what it means for organizations navigating this shift.

Dr. Diane Gutiw, Vice President, AI Research and Strategic Advisory at CGI, Co-Chair of the Canadian government’s Advisory Council on AI, and a member of the federal Task Force shaping Canada’s national AI strategy, brings a rare vantage point: she’s not just watching policy get made, she’s in the room writing it.

Through real, applied examples, Diane will showcase who’s already winning with AI, from public sector agencies streamlining services, to private companies unlocking new efficiencies, to post-secondary institutions transforming how they teach and research.

The keynote closes by looking ahead: how do we scale these gains responsibly? Diane will lay out a vision for advancing AI’s capabilities with the guardrails needed to ensure innovation serves social and societal good, not just efficiency.
